Frequently Asked Questions
I just upgraded my Mac OS or Safari and now Safari crashes!
We try to keep on top of Apple changes, but sometimes some last minute change in Apple code breaks our plugin. We work hard, in these rare cases, to turn around quickly and offer a fix.
However, sometimes, you can't even get the new version of Videobox if your Safari browser crashes. We have created a small plugin uninstalling script to help out in just these cases. You can download it
here; simply unzip the archive, then launch the script and you'll get confirmation when it's done its thing. It basically only removes the plugin file and moves it to the trash, so that Safari can launch. The next time you launch the new version of Videobox, it will place the new plugin version back in place.
I can't seem to be able to grab YouTube videos anymore?
Very sorry about this - we are investigating and wokring on a solution. It looks like YouTube is changing the way it delivers flash video and it might not be compatible with Videobox... In the meantime, high definition versions, when available, seem to still work, as do HTML5 content (if you join the HTML5 beta program).
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard...
No problem! Videobox works in Tiger (10.4), Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6)
How is Videobox different then FLVR?
Well first of all, Videobox works in Leopard. Second, Videobox is a separate application rather then a plugin to Safari - as a result you can use any browser with Videobox!
How do i know if Videobox will be able to download the video I want?
Download the TRIAL first, if its able to grab the video you want - then buy the full version!
Why isn't Videobox working on (some site) ?
We are constantly trying to stay ahead of the curve and currently support 1000's of video destinations. However, some sites choose to stream their content via an encrypted channel. We are working hard to figure out a solution that allows the capture of streaming content in a future release of Videobox.
I just purchased Videobox. How long do I have to wait until I receive my registered version?
Usually, just a matter of minutes. An email will be sent that contains your license information.
Okay, it's been a few minutes. I still haven't receive my email. What gives?
Sometimes, an overzealous spam filter will catch the email. Check your "Bulk" folder. If there's no joy to be found there, then drop us a line at
Customer Service. We'll straighten things out for you in no time.
I purchased Videobox a while ago. How do I get the latest version?
Simply download the new version from our
home page.
What's so special about Videobox?
Videobox allows you to download Flash video from most all the popular video sites - Youtube, Metacafe, Google Videos, Break.com etc. Most competitors only work with one or two sites - Videobox is designed to work for most all of them. Videobox also allows you to download multiple videos at a time.
How do I request new features?
We're always open to new ideas, and suggestions for improving our products. The best way is to submit them to our
feedback page.
When I buy Videobox, what upgrades am I entitled to?
You are entitled to all version of the 'app that are released within the same series - 2.1, 2.2, etc. are all the 2.x series.
Please note: we decided version 3.0 was a free upgrade also, so please go right ahead and upgrade your copy without fear of extra charges. The next paying upgrade for Videobox will be version 4.0, whenever that comes around.
How do I remove Videobox from my computer?
It's pretty easy. Launch Videobox and select "Uninstall Videobox" from the "Videobox" menu.
I lost my license file - can I get a new one?
Absolutely no problem: simply fill-out
this form and we'll re-send it to you.
I drag my license file as instructed, but it still won't register my copy?
The most common reason for this is that your license file somehow got an
.xml extension added. If that is the case, please click on the license file in the Finder to select it, then hit Command-i to get the information panel. In the
Name & Extension section, remove the
.xml extension. (with the dot - as in "dot-xml") Then try to drag the file again. If you still have issues, please
contact-us.
Can I add a button to Firefox?
Yes and no. For now, you can't get as integrated a solution as in Safari. However, you can have a bookmarklet that will send the current page's URL to Videobox instead of using drag'n'drop.

To install the bookmarklet in Firefox, simply drag this button into your Firefox browser bookmark bar:
Send to Videobox
(Note: if you have a lot of bookmarks in the bookmark bar, it might be added in the "overflow" - click on >>)
The first time you click on the bookmarklet, you will be asked to select the application to handle the link; select "Videobox" and don't forget to check the "Remember my choice for vidburl links" option so you don't get bothered by the dialog on every click.
We might eventually look into a better integrated solution, but not in the short term.
